DEANO RETAINS CONTEA CUP
DEANO RETAINS CONTEA CUP

Sponsor, Dean Tyler, won The CONTEA CUP for the third time on Sunday May 18th at West Monmouthshire.

In spite of fine weather and only a gentle breeze across the UK's highest golf course, West Monmouthshire proved to be as tough as expected. Deano's winning score of 33 was more than respectable on a challenging course and 3 points clear of the field.

Leo Lucas beat Dan Lloyd for the runner-up spot on Back Nine countback, with Rich Hepplewhite fourth with 29 points.

NEXT UP - THE 2025 WEYEDER CUP

England & Wales Team Captains are finalising their squads for the WYEDER CUP.

If you have entered, then you will be getting your confirmation email very shortly.

The competition tees off in England on Tuesday June 10th at Forest Hills with 5 pairs from each team playing 4BBB format and one Singles match. Later that afternoon, there will be a further 4 pairs (made up from RGS Cat A and B players only) competing in Greensomes. This is where all 4 players tee off on every hole and each pair chooses which ball to play. They then play alternate shots until the ball is holed.

We return to Raglan Parc on Thursday June 12th for another 36 hole contest. Again it will be 5 x 4BBB and 1 x Singles in the morning, followed by 4 pairs playing the Foursomes format. This is the most challenging format where players take alternate tee shots and there is little room for error. Again, the afternoon will be restricted to Cat A and B players.

Finally, we return to England for the Singles matches on Saturday June 14th at Forest of Dean golf club with the trophy presentation being held at dinner at Bells Hotel & Country Club.

LATEST RGS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Firstly, news of an extra RGS League Championship qualifier for your diaries. FRIDAY, AUGUST 8th is the planned date and we are hoping that it will be at Raglan Parc (to replace our cancelled fixture there last March).

Very little change in the league championship standings after West Monmouthshire. Leader, Andy Gilmour did not play and Leo Lucas slipped a little further back in second place with his 30 points haul (in spite of finishing runner at in The CONTEA CUP). Cup winner, Dean Tyler did improve his overall standing but stills sits in sixth position in Cat A and well behind Andy G. James Holder & Kev Player are both on 33.00 (2.40 behind Andy's average) but well in contention for the Overall or Cat A titles with Kev having the big advantage of already recording 5 qualifiers.

Dan Freeman nudged his season average very slightly in Cat B and can still improve on his 'low qualifier' of 25 before the finish. All of Dan's closest pursuers will need to play all the remaining fixtures to qualify but they will be aided by the extra fixture being scheduled for Friday August 8th.

In Cat C, Fletch will also have to play all the remaining fixtures to qualify - otherwise Dave Knapman, Rich Hepplewhite and Tom Hunter will be fighting it out between them. Knapman also has the advantage of 5 scores on the board so can only go up (or stay the same more likely)!

The Singles Matchplay Championship has gone smoothly through it's first round with plenty of time to spare. Well done everybody!

QUARTER FINAL LINE UP

Leo Lucas v Dan Freeman

Martyn Tyler v Mark Davies

James Holder v Allan Fletcher

Kev Player v Dave Knapman

The Quarter Finals will be contested in June.
